I have been going to Ish's for 25 years and have never gotten a bad hair cut. Not only is Ish a great barber but he is very friendly and funny. He gets you in and out quickly. Thanks Ish for all of the years.
I do not recommend going here if you are a woman with short hair. I showed a reference picture of a layered bob with side bangs; my hair did not resemble the picture in any way. My bangs were cut too thin, my hair line wasn't even in the back (the easiest place to get an even hair line) and the left side of my hair had strands of hair that were 1 to 2 inches longer than the rest sticking out after I showered and got rid of the "styling" used to cover it post-haircut. The lady who cut my hair didn't even seem to know how to cut layers; she cut them straight across instead of aligning it vertically and cutting to the guidelines. I will most definitely not be returning.

Haircuts are a very personal thing, a bad haircut will stay with you till it's grown out. Sure you can wear a cap but you know, and that's what matters! It's been a difficult experience for me to find a good place to get a haircut everywhere I go and I move around a lot so that's almost every year till. Since I moved to the US its been especially difficult as the 'natives' here have a different kind of hair and so even the best pros can be thrown off. I've been to a lot of ethnic hair salons and they take one look at me and tell me they can't promise miracles. They are very friendly though. To make things worse, my hair's thinning so not much to work with. Ish's was down the road from where I stayed in Troy. Nervous as I stepped in he started off by making me really comfortable and gave me the best haircuts I've got in a while. From Iraq, he's been in Troy and the US for over 25 years, cutting hair in the same location ever since. He is a Mercedes lover and has 4 of them! The mayor and the chief of police and also all the local hospital doctors come to him for haircuts. He's not formal, walk in and he will have you wait and give you a great cut. No regrets. One of the things I will miss most about Troy.
